This Parisian artist's work is borne of a maelstrom of sketching and raw, unprocessed emotion.

    by Chad Saville /December 12, 2013

The dark, gestural images created by artist Isabelle Bercée di-Puglia are turbulent and full of raw, unprocessed expression. This artist gives the impression of one who never quite learned to color within the lines: she draws with conviction and movement. The final composition is borne of a maelstrom of sketching that is, as she calls it, “without restraint or modesty.”

Born in Paris, in 1972, di-Puglia worked as a makeup artist on editorial and stage productions between Hollywood and London for over a decade. In 2006, she moved back to Paris and devoted her life to the visual arts.

“Creating fulfills something very deep inside me,” she said. “It also gives a unique sense of my life and leaves something to pass to others: a tiny bit of humanity in a world that is often cold. These images of faces and bodies are echoes of beings and all their loves, their weaknesses, their dreams, and their scars. ”

Di-Puglia has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows including The Salon d’Automne at the Grand Palais in Paris. Next March, she’ll be at Gallery Amand Joelle Priol. And in April, she’s exhibiting at Notre Dame de Port-Bail in Normandy.

Bravo !
